Offline Releasing and Artistic License have picked up domestic distribution rights to Gallic B.O. hit “Le gout des autres,” the directing debut of Cesar-winning writer and thesp Agnes Jaoui.
“Le gout” (The Taste of Others), which for four weeks topped the French box office after its release in March, will open New York in January with a Los Angeles run to follow.
A comedy of manners about a provincial factory owner who undertakes cultural self-improvement after falling in love with an artist, pic stars Jaoui, Anne Alvaro, Alain Chabat, Brigitte Catallon, and co-scripter Jean-Pierre Bacri. It was produced by Charles Gassot (“Eye of the Beholder”) with Telema/Les Films A4, France 2 Cinema and Canal Plus.
After opening the Montreal World Film Festival tonight, “Le gout” will screen next month in the New York and San Sebastian, Spain, fests.
Among other Artistic License releases are “Dancemaker,” “Fastpitch,” and 1998 Palme d’Or winner “Eternity and a Day.”
