Fresh off wrapping production on Joel Schumacher’s “Tigerland,” Colin Farrell is jumping in the saddle to play the title character in “Jesse James” for Morgan Creek Prods.
Pic, to be produced by Morgan Creek chairman and CEO James G. Robinson and by Billy Gerber, will be directed by Les Mayfield (“Blue Streak”). John Rogers penned the script; exec producer is Jonathan A. Zimbert.
Lensing is slated for a June start, with Warner Bros. to handle domestic distribution and Morgan Creek to distribute overseas.
Action-comedy Western centers on the legendary American outlaw and his rebel gang. When they go up against the greedy railroad barons, they find themselves wanted by the law but revered by the public.
Farrell has appeared in “Ordinary Decent Criminal,” which stars Kevin Spacey and Linda Fiorentino, and in Tim Roth’s “The War Zone.”
“Tigerland” is slated for release in the fall through New Regency and 20th Fox.
Morgan Creek will next release the teenage thriller “The In Crowd” on July 21. Production on the cross-dressing basketball comedy “Juwanna Mann,” helmed by Jesse Vaughan and starring Miguel A. Nunez, begins in July.
Farrell is repped by CAA and in the U.K. by Dublin-based Lisa Richards Agency.
