The Walt Disney Co. has greenlit “The Royal Tenenbaums,” a script from Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson (“Rushmore”).
Pic, about a dysfunctional family of geniuses that wind up as adults living under the same roof, will be shot in Gotham before potential writer and thesp strikes hit next year. No cast for the ensemble film has yet been attached.
Producer is Barry Mendel (“The Sixth Sense”), and the studio is in talks with Scott Rudin to join Mendel as a producer. Buena Vista Motion Picture Group co-president Nina Jacobson will oversee the project for the Mouse House.
Anderson’s directing credits include “Rushmore” and “Bottle Rocket.” Wilson, who co-wrote both of those pics with Anderson, recently starred in “Shanghai Noon.”
Last year, Anderson and Wilson inked a deal with Disney under their American Empirical Pictures banner.
Anderson and Wilson are repped by UTA.
