Dances With Films, the 3rd annual film festival for the truly independent, will hold a week long festival Santa Monica from June 23-29.
Fest — designed to showcase the works of “unknowns” — will unspool 50 films in all at the Laemmle’s Sunset 5, including 12 full-length narratives, 16 shorts and a sidebar of special screenings.
The main criteria for screened pics is that they carry no assistance or funding from known directors, actors, producers or well established production companies. In addition, all submissions must meet a completion date of no earlier than January 1998.
“We created this festival to acknowledge the struggles of countless talented filmmakers throughout the world and shout their extraordinary uniqueness from the rooftops of Hollywood,” said fest co-creator and organizer Michael Trent.
While this year’s fest exhibits the work of primarily North American filmmakers, there will be a small representation of pics from Canada and Oz.
