Jessica Cox has inked with Penny Marshall’s Sony-based Parkway Productions as vice president of development.
Cox will seek out scripts for Marshall to direct and to produce under the Parkway banner. She will also assist the shingle in finding financing for indie and studio projects outside of its first-look deal with Columbia Pictures.
“We’re excited to establish Parkway as a serious production entity at Sony,” said Sean Corrigan, prexy of Parkway, “and we’re confident through her outstanding relationships and extraordinary eye for material that Jessica is the perfect person to speed us toward our goals.”
Cox most recently worked as a director of development for Col-based Black and Blu Entertainment under producers Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal. Prior to that, she had worked as an assistant at DreamWorks and at the William Morris Agency.
Her hire represents a broadening of Parkway’s production initiatives.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of Penny’s incredible team,” Cox said, “and we’re all excited to branch out into new genres and explore all the many opportunities for material here at Sony.”
Added Corrigan: “With William Morris and AMG representing us, in addition to fueling Penny’s feature directing career, we know we’ll be getting the best material to produce, regardless of who’s directing.”
Cox will report to Parkway prexy Corrigan as well as producer Amy Lemisch.
Parkway recently moved from Universal to Sony with a three-year first-look deal last October. Marshall is in pre-production at the helm of Col’s “Riding in Cars With Boys,” a Drew Barrymore starrer that James Brooks is producing. Her previous credits include pics “A League of Their Own,” “Awakenings” and “Big.”
