Cain rolls into Par pic ‘Race’

Ensemble laffer includes Goldberg, Gooding, Cleese

Dean Cain has joined the ensemble of the Jerry Zucker-directed Paramount comedy “Rat Race.” The cast consists of Whoopi Goldberg, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jason Alexander, Breckin Meyer, Kathy Najimy, Seth Green, John Cleese and Rowan Atkinson.

The film, reminiscent of such star-studded screwball comedies as “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World” and “Cannonball Run,” concerns a group in Las Vegas that wins the opportunity to participate in a race from Vegas to New Mexico. There are no rules, and the winner gets $2 million. Cain plays a self-absorbed state champion sharpshooter caught by his girlfriend in the clinches with his ex-girlfriend. Andy Breckman wrote the script and Zucker, Sean Daniel, Jim Jacks and Janet Zucker produce.

Cain can currently be seen in the Sony Pictures Classics release “Broken Hearts Club,” and starred in the Hallmark Hall of Fame pic “Runaway,” airing Dec. 10 on CBS. He’s repped by UTA.
