Helena Bonham Carter is set to put on the makeup as an ape princess in 20th Century Fox’s update of “Planet of the Apes.”
She joins Mark Wahlberg, who’s starring in the pic for director Tim Burton, as well as Michael Clarke Duncan, Tim Roth, Paul Giamatti and Estella Warren.
Fox hopes to begin shooting the film in the fall and is aiming to make it a high-profile release for next summer. Pic was scripted by William Broyles Jr. and is being produced by Richard Zanuck, who was head of production at Fox back in the late 1960s when the original five films got started. It’s being overseen at the studio by TCF head of production Hutch Parker and by Tom Rothman, who was upped this week to studio chairman.
Bonham Carter, who’s represented by UTA, appeared last year in Fox’s “Fight Club.” She came to prominence in 1986 in “Room With a View.”
