After collecting three medals at the Australian Film Institute Awards on Saturday, Beyond has announced the sale of Andrew Dominik’s “Chopper” to 24 territories, including the U.S., making it the agent’s most profitable international sale in three years.
The film, about notorious criminal Mark Read, collected AFI awards for director Dominik, lead actor Eric Bana and support Simon Lyndon.
In July, amid controversy over alleged glamorization of Read’s criminal life, 20th Century Fox dropped plans to subdistribute the film Down Under. The film gets its international debut on Friday in Blightly.
Beyond’s “Looking for Alibrandi” scooped the AFI Awards with five nods, including best picture for producer Robyn Kershaw, lead actress for newcomer Pia Miranda and supporting actress for Greta Scacchi.
