APG will fashion Gucci pic

Silverman, Bloch to adapt book about rise of haute couture icons

Martin Scorsese is on board to direct the adaptation of “Gucci: A House Divided,” a biography optioned by Artists Production Group. Barbara De Fina, Scorsese’s partner in Cappa Prods., will produce the pic with APG.

Kathy Silverman and Lisa Bloch (“Life of the Party: The Pamela Harriman Story”) will adapt the book by Gerald McKnight, which was published in 1987.

APG has been developing the idea of a Gucci biopic with Scorsese producing since last fall (Daily Variety Oct. 6, 99), but Scorsese recently indicated his interest in helming the pic.

“Gucci” will be a sprawling epic of a family drama, spanning four generations of Italy’s Gucci family as it rose from peasantry to become a fashion house that stands today as one of the icons of haute couture. Most recently, the matriarch of the Gucci dynasty received a lengthy prison sentence for orchestrating the murder of a family member.

The Gucci story also inspired the recently published bio “The House of Gucci” by former Women’s Wear Daily correspondent Sarah Gay Forden.

Developing the project at APG are APG production president Cathy Shulman, Steve Barnett and Maya Richards. Exec Sonja Grunden will oversee “Gucci” for Cappa.

Scorsese is currently preparing to shoot “Gangs of New York” in Rome starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Scorsese is repped by AMG. Silverman and Bloch are repped by Todd Smith at Mosaic Media Group.
