Laemmle’s Playhouse 7 cinema in Pasadena will play host to the second annual Method Fest Independent Film Festival, a showcase for features and shorts emphasizing the actors’ performances slated for June 16-23.
Laemmle Theatres supported the fest last year during its first outing at Pasadena’s State Theater, but this year, in addition to providing screening space, the org will step up its involvement in marketing the event. The fest will be aggressively promoted in all Laemmle theaters with printed advertising material and trailer previews.
“Although we have always been supporters of independent film festivals, I liked the idea of a film festival where the human element of stories comes first,” Laemmle Theatres VP Greg Laemmle said. “Our regulars prefer intriguing characters and strong performances in films — a festival like the Method Fest is reflective of what many of our customers enjoy.”
Films will compete for honors such as the Geraldine Page Award for best actress and the John Garfield Award for best actor, among others for acting, writing and directing, as well as nods for best picture and best short.
The deadline for submissions is April 28, and films under consideration should have been completed no earlier than June 1998. For information, contact the Method Fest offices at (310) 535-9230 or visit the Web site at http://www.methodfest.com.
