WMG, Launch Media tune up

Music company allowing site to show videos for free

In its first licensing pact with an Internet tune distrib, Warner Music Group will fuel Launch Media with its entire catalog of musicvideos.

Under terms of the deal (Launch’s third with a major label), WMG will allow its videos to be accessed on-demand for free by Launch.com’s estimated two million members, in exchange for a license fee and small equity stake in the Web site.

Sony and EMI signed on to similar alliances with the Santa Monica-based company, in April and November respectively.

Coming from such artists as Madonna, Brandy, Metallica, Sugar Ray, Third Eye Blind and Jewel, the WMG videos will also be streamed on Launch’s pre-programmed channels. Launch has already booted up several WMG selections.

Subsidiary labels under WMG’s wing include The Atlantic Group, Elektra Entertainment Group, Rhino Entertainment, Sire Records Group and Warner Bros. Records.

“The Internet opens a whole new avenue for our artists’ videos to reach consumers,” said WMG exec VP of strategic planning and business development Paul Vidich. “Launch is a perfect outlet for us because it provides the consumer with the most comprehensive musicvideo selection on the Web.”

Launch CEO Dave Goldberg added, “(WMG) has an amazing array of artists under their umbrella and by adding their videos to Launch.com we are creating an even better user experience.”
