Ritmoteca, Blau make digital pact

Latin music site has over 200K titles for sale as downloads

MIAMI — Latin music and entertainment online distrib/e-tailer Ritmoteca has inked an agreement with Blau Prods. to become the Spanish label’s primary Internet site for digital distribution.

Blau produces and publishes most of the music in the Balearic Islands, which includes Mallorca and Ibiza, and is best know for its folk and traditional music. In 1989, it co-founded Discmedi, a publishing and production company in Barcelona, which today is a leading label.

Ritmoteca will have the rights for digital sales and promotion of Blau Prods.’ entire catalog of songs in all current and future formats on the Web, including digital downloading and streaming.

The Miami-based company opened its European headquarters on Mallorca earlier this year.

Ritmoteca has signed agreements with labels like RMM Records, Sonolux, Discos Fuentes and J&N Prods., building a database of more than 200,000 titles for sale as downloads, including tracks from Latin stars such as Marc Anthony, Carlos Vives, Celia Cruz, Tito Puente and India.

It is also in talks with the majors, and by the end of August, hopes to include free, promotional downloadable tracks from Warner and Sony Latin artists.
