Netcaster StreamSearch is launching “Not in Theatres,” a channel dedicated to indie films and animated shorts that will carry content from Web sites including WireBreak.com, Brilliant Digital Entertainment and Film Roman’s Level13.net.
Ten films and Web toons will be highlighted each week, with the rest accessible via a searchable database on StreamSearch. When a short is downloaded, it will be shown via a media player co-branded with StreamSearch and whatever Netco originated the work.
“StreamSearch’s ‘Not in Theatres’ should prove to be an often-visited site for film fans, while providing another avenue for the film industry to develop a new audience and tap new revenue sources,” said Rob Shambro, founder and CEO of StreamSearch.
Deal expands the amount of content available on the Netcaster by several thousand films. Besides film trailers, the company offers Netizens a selection of music and Netcasts from live events. Site has a promotional deal with Artisan Entertainment, under which trailers, behind the scenes footage and interviews with the players in Artisan films are made available for download.
Other Netcos involved in StreamSearch’s “Not in Theatres” initiative include Eveo, HollywoodOnSet.com, Dotcomix, iFilm, Meiselman-Rede Media Group, Mondo Media, ReelShort.com, Showtime Networks and UGround. StreamSearch will provide links to each partner Web site.
Gotham-based StreamSearch was founded in 1999.
