Peter Guber’s Mandalay Sports & Urban Entertainment has inked a content production pact with SRSwowcast.com, the entertainment arm of audio outfit SRS Labs Inc., which will feature better sound for programming on the Web.
The Web site will launch this summer and through its deal with Mandalay, will include the online broadcast of live music, entertainment and sports events, as well as interviews with celebs.
Site is also expected to ink content deals with other creators, as well.
In addition to its linkage with Mandalay Sports Entertainment, Mandalay Sports & Urban Entertainment is a co-venture with New Urban Entertainment, a subsid of live event producer and promoter SFX Entertainment, a linkup that should boost SRSwowcast.com’s programming lineup.
What is significant is that with SRS on board, the programming broadcast over the Web will emphasize the sound, something that has been criticized in the ongoing battle between streaming media players RealNetworks and Microsoft’s Windows Media Player.
Microsoft could adopt SRS’ audio technology, which enhances the quality of streaming media sound from mono and stereo sources to surround sound. SRS bowed its flagship online audio technology called Wow in January.
Earlier this year, Microsoft invested in SRS Labs. Company also has deals with Web content syndicator Honkworm Intl. and online music broadcaster WWW.com.
“Our focus is to create the highest quality music and entertainment experience on the Internet through our advanced audio and voice technologies, and partnering with media companies such as MSUE will be key to our success,” said Chuck Cortright, SRSwowcast.com’s prexy.
