Fandango, the consortium of movie exhibitors created to provide online ticketing services, on Tuesday tapped Art Levitt as prexy and CEO.
Levitt previously was prexy of Disney Regional Entertainment and, before that, prexy and CEO of Hard Rock Cafe Intl. He officially takes charge the first week of July and will be based in Los Angeles.
“Fandango offers an irresistible opportunity to leverage my passion for entertainment and the bricks-and-mortar prominence of our exhibitor partners in developing a new powerhouse brand,” Levitt said.
Formed in March, Fandango is a partnership between Loews Cineplex Entertainment, Regal Cinemas, Carmike Cinemas, Cinemark Theaters, General Cinema Theaters, Edwards Theatres and Century Theatres.
Besides ticket purchasing, Fandango hopes to offer consumers show times, trailers and reviews via the Internet and wireless devices. A test version of the service is planned in the next several weeks in Santa Clara with a full rollout later this summer.
“Art’s expertise in brand building and his skills in consumer service and entertainment will be critical in growing this new startup from a great idea into a thriving entertainment venture,” said J. Michael Cline, managing partner at investor Accretive Technology Partners, who had served as acting CEO of Fandango before Levitt’s appointment.
