CBC Radio bows Web service R3

Storytelling site with audio, streaming video, animation to launch simultaneously

TORONTO — The radio division of Canada’s public broadcaster unveiled its long-awaited Internet service Tuesday.

Currently billed Radio Three (R3), CBC Radio is killing two birds with one stone with its interactive Web service. The Vancouver-based hybrid both gives the public broadcaster a leg up on the multimedia/convergence bandwagon and it targets the coveted 15-and-over youth market, a sector that has been largely oblivious to the CBC.

R3 is being launched with a new storytelling site called 120seconds.com, a pastiche of audio, streaming video, photos, text and animation.
