TriStar trio shoot to marketing posts

New veeps take international assignments

Columbia TriStar Film Distributors Intl. announced Thursday three key promotions in its marketing division.

Nigel Clark has been upped to executive VP, intl. marketing; Martin Bachmann, senior veep of intl. marketing; and Susan van der Werff, senior veep of publicity and promotions.

Clark, a nine-year company vet, began his tenure at CTFDI as a European marketing supervisor in London. In 1994, he was upped to veepee of marketing for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He dropped anchor in L.A. in 1996, after being tapped as senior veep, intl. marketing. Under his new title, Clark will continue to oversee theatrical marketing for all territories outside of North America.

Susan van der Werff — who reports directly to Clark — joined Columbia Pictures’ sales department in 1982, subsequently leaving in 1987, returning to the company in 1990 to serve as an international marketing liaison. In 1992 she was upped to VP of media relations and assumed her current post in 1995.

Relocating to L.A. from Col’s German offices, Bachmann will assist Clark in spearheading marketing campaigns for all of CTFDI’s theatrical releases around the globe, including projects from the studio pipeline, as well as global and regional acquisitions.

“I am pleased to see Nigel’s role evolve, and to give Susan and Martin new opportunities,” said CTFDI worldwide distribution prexy Jeff Blake. “With these three executives in place, we have a strong team in deed to lead the international marketing group.”
