HONG KONG — After weeks of rumors over his imminent departure, Steve Smith has ankled as managing director of music network Channel V.
Star TV, which holds nearly 90% of Channel V, has yet to announce Smith’s successor, but senior execs Steve Askew and Jamie Davis will assume his duties in the interim. Smith, who has been with the music network for two years, will continue to act as a consultant, advising on its integration into Star TV’s entertainment channel operations. Though Channel V claims to have a potential reach of more than 500 million viewers in China and across Asia, it is understood that Smith has come under increasing pressure as the network has yet to break even.
