Striking actors and advertisers resumed negotiations Wednesday for a 10th straight day amid continuing hopes of hammering out a settlement of the five-month work stoppage.
The return to bargaining at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in New York followed rumors that talks had col-lapsed early Wednesday. Screen Actors Guild prexy William Daniels denied the speculation, declaring, “We’re here to negotiate and we will not walk away from the table.”
Daniels spoke at an impromptu news conference held with the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists at the hotel. Also appearing were Julia Roberts, Rosie O’Donnell, Richard Dreyfuss, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Richard Belzer and Billy Baldwin to show solidairty with the unions, which have been showcasing high-profile members recently.
