Gaylord increases share in Argentine pay TV channels

TV Argentina to be redone as MusicCountry en Espanol

MIAMI — Gaylord Cable Networks has upped its share in Argentine pay TV channels TV Argentina and Solo Tango to 50% from 15%.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Gaylord will re-christen music and lifestyle channel TV Argentina as MusicCountry, the Nashville, Tenn.-based co.’s new global TV brand that features a mix of country, rock, folk and “roots” music programming.

24-hour programming

“MusicCountry en Espanol” will bow first as a nine-hour branded block in July, and will go to 24-hour Spanish-lingo music programming in November.

TV Argentina currently has 3.2 million subs. Gaylord had been airing a programming block since last fall, when it first invested in the channels.

Solo Tango — devoted to the music, history and art of the dance — has a sub base of 4.5 million in Argentina, with some distribution in other South American markets and in Europe. Gaylord plans to expand that channel’s international presence.
