FX has awarded senior VP chevrons to Chuck Saftler, the cabler’s veep of programming since 1996.
Saftler’s responsibilities include the purchase of theatrical movies, often in their first network window, and of syndicated TV series like “The Practice,” “That ’70s Show” and “Ally McBeal.” Among the movies he’s bought for FX are “The Blair Witch Project,” “American Pie,” “The Green Mile,” “Any Given Sunday” and “The Insider.”
His duties extend to program operations, scheduling, online activities and sports acquisitions for the network.
Saftler, 37, joined FX as director of scheduling when the cabler opened for business in 1994. Before that, he was a research executive at KTLA. Earlier, during a stint as program researcher for Columbia Pictures TV, he helped to launch “Seinfeld” and “Married … With Children” in off-net syndication.
