SYDNEY — Peter Downer has quit as managing director of Australian arthouse distributor Pinefilm.
Best known for distribbing “Gods and Monsters,” Pinefilm is controlled by the Rothsey family.
The exit apparently stemmed from differences of opinion over management issues. Downer is unlikely to be replaced.
The move comes just weeks after the outfit shifted its subdistribution arrangements away from UIP to Becker Entertainment’s REP Films.
String of exits
It’s also the latest of several exits in Oz distribution in the past fortnight, during which former Polygram distribution manager David Collins quit as general manager of REP for personal reasons, and former Polygram marketing manager John Scott was named marketing manager at 20th Century Fox, replacing Melissa Gillies.
Libby Rhys-Jones, marketing general manager of Roadshow Film Distributors, which handles all Warner Bros., New Line and Franchise releases, is also quitting for personal reasons.
