Cahners to track e-tail with E-Commerce mag

Publication to follow $20 bil industry

Cahners Business Information — the parent company of Variety and Daily Variety — will launch in April the publication E-Commerce Business, which will cover the e-tailing market.

E-Commerce was created to explore the booming number of online transactions made between businesses and by consumers themselves — ‘Net retail sales were estimated at $20 billion last year and are projected to hit $100 billion by 2002, according to Forrester Research.

Business-to-business-to-boom

And business-to-business sales are expected to grow from $109 billion in 1999 to over $840 billion by 2002.

“Retail and business-to-business decision makers, whether they are selling over the Internet today or not, need a publication that focuses exclusively on the fast-changing e-commerce environment,” said Cahners chief operations officer Bruce Nairn.

The mag also will report on e-commerce-related support services, including marketing, technical, strategy and design operations — which collectively pulled in $10.6 billion in 1999, and is estimated to increase to $48 billion by 2002.

With its first issue rolling out April 17, the mag will publish 18 times in 2000 and 24 times in 2001.

Craft tapped editor-in-chief

Lester Craft Jr. has been tapped E-Commerce Business editor-in-chief. He was formerly editor-in-chief of Cahners’ Furniture/Today.

Kara Graham, past assistant director of advertising at Furniture/Today, will serve as the associate publisher of E-Commerce.

Other Cahners publications include Playthings, Gifts & Decorative Accessories, Home Accents Today, Home Textiles Today, JCK, Twice and Publisher’s Weekly.
