BMI elects board; taps Elkins chair

New directors include Preston, Jones, Sherman

Kenneth Elkins of St. Louis-based Pulitzer Broadcasting has been elected chair of the BMI board of directors. He was first elected to the performing rights org’s board in 1991.

Other board members elected to new four-year terms were BMI prexy-CEO Frances Preston; veteran broadcaster Phillip Jones, who’d just completed three years as chair; and ABC’s David Sherman. Preston has held her current exec post with the Gotham-based org since 1986.

Continuing in their seats on the board are Babb Communications’ James Babb, Broadcast Consultants’ Joseph Carriere, Hubbard Broadcasting’s Harold Crump, Information Network Radio’s John Douglas, Ohio University’s Willard Hoyt, TV-3’s Frank Melton, Cosmos Broadcasting’s Neil Smith, Berkshire Broadcasting’s Donald Thurston, Gannett Broadcasting’s Cecil Walker, attorney George Willoughby and Benedek Broadcasting’s K. James Yager.
