Actors’ Equity backs unions

Members instructed to honor picket lines

Actors’ Equity is supporting SAG and AFTRA in their current dispute with advertising agencies and producers of radio and TV commercials.

In the event that an agreement is not reached before the unions’ strike deadline of May 1, Equity members have been instructed to honor picket lines and not to perform in or audition for work in commercials.

A letter signed by Equity president Ron Silver and executive director Alan Eisenberg has been sent to SAG offering Equity’s full support. The letter noted the employers’ “refusal to consider any of SAG/AFTRA’s major proposals yet (their) demanding of cutbacks (that) is dangerously close to and perhaps falls over into bad faith bargaining.”

More than 60% of Actors’ Equity members belong to SAG and AFTRA.
