TNN goes bowling for viewers

Cabler looking to expand aud

CBS Cable’s TNN is going bowling for dollars.

The cable network, which has been revamping itself to appeal to a broader audience than just country music fans, will launch “Rockin’ Bowl,” an original one-hour primetime series featuring collegiate bowling teams. The series, where students vie for cash prizes up to $10,000 for their schools, will air Tuesday nights at 8, beginning Jan. 11.

TNN hopes to revitalize bowling, much like it brought back roller derby with “WSL RollerJam.” “Once a very popular television sport, the game of bowling is updated and re-energized in ‘Rockin’ Bowl’ with some high-tech additions, like glow-in-the-dark pins and music,” said TNN programming veep Brian Hughes.

TNN also announced Tuesday that it will launch a Monday movie night targeted to female viewers beginning Jan. 3. The cabler has also ordered 17 new episodes of its biography series “The Life And Times…”

“Rockin’ Bowl” is produced by Blanki and Bodi Prods. Susan Winston and Dan Funk will exec produce.
