PRAGUE — “Agujetas, Flamenco Singer,” from France’s Ideal Audience, captured the grand prix at the 36th Golden Prague TV fest.
Jury prexy Larry Weinstein of Rhombus Media handed out second prize Czech Crystals to Pars Media of Germany for “Opera Fanatic,” and to host Czech TV for “Tears of the Knife” and “Fanatic Admirable Flight.”
CTV also grabbed a special mention for “Black and White in Color,” a documentary about Gypsy singer Vera Bila, which earned the station’s first sale to the BBC in a decade.
The fest included a session on program pitching to network execs led by Banff TV fest director Pat Ferns, as well as a European Broadcasting Union seminar on TV rights and co-productions that proved a meeting point between West Europeans and their Eastern counterparts looking forward to EU membership.
Fest director Jiri Vejvoda selected 120 competition entries. Nearly 40 of those were given public screenings, for the first time, at select arthouses in central Prague.
