Bill Nye, star of the kids show “Bill Nye the Science Guy,” has been signed to be the on- and off-air spokesman for Noggin, the kids educational network from Nickelodeon and Children’s Television Workshop.
In addition, Noggin has also licensed “Bill Nye the Science Guy” from Buena Vista. The program has ceased production but will continue being sold into syndication by Buena Vista and will continue airing on PBS stations.
Nye’s contract to be Noggin’s spokesman was said to be for more than one year.
The deal allows Nye to continue working on his non-Noggin related activities, such as writing books and setting up his own production company. Nye cannot, however, serve as spokesman for any other entity throughout the duration of the contract.
In addition to serving as Noggin on-air host, Nye will also participate in Noggin’s Web site, the cabler’s off-air promotions and community outreach programs.
Nye was represented in the Noggin deal by Ray Solley for William Morris.
