As focus sharpens toward new media at this year’s NATPE, organizers of the January TV programming exec confab have announced the pavilion dedicated to new media has already sold out, with the double the number of companies compared with 1999.
More than 60 new-media companies will exhibit for the 2000 market, compared with 30 at the most recent NATPE. Of January’s 60 firms, 29 will root in the New Media Pavilion with a capacity of 7,000 square feet. Among the new attendees will be Digital Conference, Microsoft Streaming Media, Yahoo! and Microcast.
“The interest in the New Media Pavilion has been phenomenal, and serves as a reminder of the continued convergence of the entertainment and technology communities,” said Nick Orfanopoulos, NATPE’s senior veep of conferences and special events.
Overall, 445 companies have registered for the New Orleans event, with specialty pavilions planned throughout the confab, including an Intl. Pavilion, an Animation and Licensing Pavilion and a Documentary Pavilion.
“In spite of the industrywide consolidation, we’re on par with last year’s figures at this time and actually have more companies exhibiting at the conference,” said Bruce Johansen, CEO and president of the National Assn. of Television Program Executives.
