Motion Intl., the distribution division of Coscient, has signed a multi-year distribution agreement with the French independent distrib M5, the two companies announced Wednesday.
Under the terms of the deal, Motion and M5 will distribute each other’s TV catalogs in their respective territories — Motion in Canada, M5 in Benelux and French-speaking Africa.
“We’ve been informally doing business together, and we decided it was time to formalize it and take it to the next level,” Motion prexy Stephen Greenberg said. He was not able to put a dollar figure on the value of the deal, however, saying it will depend on the flow of the product. “It’s different kinds of product. (M5’s) will be programming that (it) represents on an agency basis, while ours will probably be product owned and produced mostly by us.”
M5’s 3000-hour catalog includes “The Marx Brothers” animation series, “Karajan,” “Maria Callas,” “1000 Kids Toward 2000” and “Fashion Face.” Coscient’s includes “Omerta,” “Greatest Journeys on Earth” and “Ecce Homo.”
