KCOP nabs Chambers

Anchor ankles weekend anchor post at KNBC

Local UPN affil KCOP has tapped Rick Chambers co-anchor of its 10 p.m. newscast, luring him away from his weekend anchor post at KNBC.

UPN 13 prexy and general manager David Woodcock had expressed “a lot of interest in him some ago” and jumped at the opportunity to grab Chambers now that his contract was up for renewal at KNBC Channel 4.

Chambers’ KCOP gig kicks off in December. He replaces current UPN 13 10 p.m. co-anchor Alan Frio, whose contract expires at the end of year. Tawny Little will remain as Chambers’ 10 p.m. anchor counterpart.

“We’re looking to advance our news coverage,” said Woodcock, whose L.A. station broadcasts just one hour of news a day. “Rick’s a tremendous addition to our news operations. He’s a fabulous choice.”
