Fuji TV prexy honored with Founders Award

HOLLYWOOD — Hisashi Hieda, president and CEO of Fuji TV, will be honored at the 27th International Emmy Awards gala in New York on Nov. 22 with the Founders Award.

Hieda, who introduced the slogan “If it’s not fun, it’s not Fuji TV,” joined the broadcaster in 1961 and became president and CEO in 1988. He has held the post of chairman and CEO of Fujisankei Communications International since 1992.

During his tenure, programs were introduced that catapulted Fuji from fourth to first place in the ratings and which have turned it into Japan’s most profitable network. Heida has also been involved in the company’s successful moviemaking activities.

The Founders Award is given by the International Council of the National Academy of Television Arts & Science to individuals whose unique creative accomplishments contribute to the quality of global television production.

Kay Koplovitz, president of the International Council, said, “We are very pleased to honor the many achievements of Hisashi Hieda. Hieda-san is a true representative of this award.”
