Fox News nabs WMUR prexy hopefuls

Republican 'Forum' not compatible with 'Nightline'

NEW YORK — After ABC News’ “Nightline” bowed out Thursday, Fox News Channel nabbed the rights to present “The Republicans: A New Hampshire Forum,” the first live event featuring all six Republican presidential candidates, on Dec. 2.

ABC News had signed on to present the forum after being approached by New Hampshire’s WMUR-TV. But, when it became clear that WMUR had already decided on a format and was unwilling to change it, ABC News pulled out.

“The format that WMUR had agreed on was not going to make an effective ‘Nightline’ broadcast,” said ABC News spokeswoman Su-Lin Nichols.

After ABC’s pass, WMUR turned to Fox. Fox News Channel will televise the live event from WMUR’s studio in Manchester, N.H. Fox News’ Brit Hume and WMUR’s news director Karen Brown will moderate.
