Fox Family Channel has landed off-net rights to its first off-net series after outbidding TNN for rights to the CBS drama “Early Edition” from Eyemark Entertainment in a multi-year, multimillion-dollar deal.
The fam-friendly cabler, which tends to focus its energies and money on originals rather than network repeats, will run the drama as part of its weekly primetime lineup next year.
“We’ve always taken meetings with (off-net distributors) to keep in touch with the marketplace, but never found the right program until ‘Early Edition,'” said Rich Cronin, prexy and CEO of Fox Family Channels and Fox Kids Network. “However, we will continue to make a huge investment in originals, but because the show is so unique and would match well with our audiences, I felt this was a perfect match for us.”
“Early Edition” has ranked number one in its Saturday time period in households during its four years on the air. Eyemark will now roll the series out for weekend broadcast syndication.
“We’re thrilled that Fox Family Channel not only recognized the long-term potential of the ‘Early Edition’ franchise, but found it a powerful tentpole for the network’s primetime programming,” Eyemark president Ed Wilson said.
