CBS’ ‘Joan’ arcs down for wrap

'Home' shows improvement

CBS’ “Joan of Arc” wilted a bit in the heat of a competitive sweeps-month Tuesday, allowing ABC to keep a step ahead of the night’s 18-49 competition with the Alphabet’s best Tuesday numbers in 11 weeks.

“Joan of Arc” still repelled the night’s household challengers to give CBS its 18th Tuesday homes victory of the season.

“Joan’s” concluding installment Tuesday marched to a 12.9 rating, 20 share in homes and a 6.3/16 in adults 18-49. This homes rating is off by 15% vs. “Joan’s” 15.2/24 first-episode results Sunday, for the biggest Sunday to Tuesday drop-off among CBS’ four multiple-parters aired this season.

ABC countered Tuesday with a pair of “Home Improvements,” the second of which (11.6/19 in homes, 7.8/22 in adults 18-49 at 8:30) constructed the strongest “Home” rating since March 2. It’s the first significant indication of building momentum toward next week’s highly anticipated finale.

At 9:30, a special 90-minute “NYPD Blue” (10.7/17 in homes, 6.9/17 in adults 18-49) locked up the series’ best 10-11 p.m. homes rating (11.2) since Jan. 12. “Blue” wraps its sixth season next Tuesday.

With “Joan” rallying CBS, the Eye has cut NBC’s sweeps-month lead in households down to half a ratings point with eight nights left to count. Before “Joan, Part 1” aired Sunday, CBS trailed by 1.1 points. NBC remains a commanding 1.5 rating points ahead of sweeps runner-up Fox in adults 18-49 (a 5.9 rating vs. a 4.4).
