‘Beisbol’ good for Unapix

Show to look at Latino influence in baseball

Unapix Syndication is capitalizing on the outcry for minority programming by clearing a syndicated “Beisbol: The Latin Dream” special to a 70% national and 90% Hispanic audience in time for the baseball playoffs. Anaheim Angels announcer Jose Talentino has been tapped as host of the broadcast.

The program will debut in various markets, including NBC O&Os in New York, Los Angeles and Philadelphia as well as all Granite broadcasting stations. If the airing holds up well, Unapix will push for a weekly series to air for either the next baseball season in spring or next fall. The special will look at the Latino influence in Major League Baseball , how its developed and where its going.

“We are pleased to see a general market acceptance of this special program,” said Bruce Casino, exec VP and general sales manager of Unapix. “The local television station operators recognize that their Hispanic viewers are the fastest growing minority in America and have disproportionately small representation on network television.”

The program will be broadcast in English with a secondary audio program in Spanish.
