‘Pie’ guys pact for 3 pix with Scanbox

'Rotten Lover' tops slate

CANNES — Warren Zide and Craig Perry, producers of “American Pie,” have struck a three-pic deal with indie producer and distrib Scanbox, beginning with the comedy “Return of the World’s Most Rotten Lover.”

Scanbox will fully finance the pics, which will be budgeted in the $10 million-$15 million range. Scanbox Intl. will handle worldwide distribution.

“Rotten Lover” is the story of a notoriously insensitive bachelor who realizes that the only woman he truly loves is one that he dumped seven years previously.

Zide-Perry Films, which has a first-look deal with Warner Bros., will produce the pic, scripted by Stuart Gibbs (“Disaster Area”). While no director is attached, the producers hope to begin lensing this fall.

“This is one of the funniest scripts that I have ever read,” said Scanbox topper Ash Shah. The other two pics in the package are also teen comedies, entitled “Gophers” and “Ten Women, No Sandwich.”

Zide and Perry are currently in pre-production on “Flight 10” for New Line Cinema. Zide was also a producer on “The Big Hit” for Sony Pictures.

Domestic distribution on the pics is not yet set.

Zide and Perry produced “Pie” with Chris Moore and Chris Weitz. Pic, which Universal Pictures is handling in all English-language territories, was directed by Paul Weitz and is skedded for release in the U.S. on July 9. Summit Entertainment is handling distribution in all other territories on “Pie,” one of the few pics at Cannes this year to generate any buzz.

Shah negotiated the deal on behalf of Scanbox directly with Zide and Perry.
