CANNES — Canuck film outfit Alliance Atlantis Pictures and Brit production company Natural Nylon Entertainment announced Tuesday that they will co-produce three new films — “Marlowe,” “Disturbia” and “Psychoville” — and many of the British actors who are partners in Natural Nylon will star in the pics.
Casting is not set yet on any of the films, but principal roles will be filled by actors with ownership stakes in Natural Nylon, notably Jude Law (“The Talented Mr. Ripley”), Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller (“Trainspotting”), Sean Pertwee (“Event Horizon”) and Sadie Frost (“Bram Stoker’s Dracula”).
“Marlowe,” to be directed by British helmer John Maybury (“Love Is the Devil”), is a love triangle set around the relationship between Elizabethan playwrights Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare.
Script was penned by Alex Ayers, and lensing is set for this fall in London and Italy. Natural Nylon co-chairmen Damon Bryant and Bradley Adams are producing the pic, which is budgeted at $20 million.
“Disturbia,” based on Christopher Fowler’s novel, will be directed by Jake Scott (“Plunkett & Macleane”). The thriller is the story of a commoner writing an article about the upper class who discovers the existence of a secret league.
“Psychoville,” a psychological thriller, will be directed by Sara Sugarman, who recently completed the comedy “Mad Cows.” Both “Disturbia” and “Psychoville” are budgeted in the $15 million range.
The pics are part of a long-term deal between Alliance Atlantis and Natural Nylon to develop and produce pics. The first collaboration was Canuck helmer David Cronenberg’s “eXistenZ,” which starred Jennifer Jason Leigh and Law. Alliance Atlantis Pictures Intl. will take all world rights to the pics and will directly distribute them in the U.K. and Canada via Alliance Atlantis Releasing. The Canadian company will also sell U.S. rights to the pics.
