Icon Entertainment Intl. is handling foreign sales for the Paramount Pictures thriller “Bless the Child,” starring Kim Basinger.
The film, which starts shooting in June, will be directed by Chuck Russell (“Eraser”) from a script by Don Roos.
It’s a supernatural thriller set against the wintry streets of New York at the start of the next millennium, with the forces of good and evil preparing to do battle.
Andy Garcia is in negotiations to star opposite Basinger. Mace Neufeld is producing.
The pic marks the first co-venture between Icon and Paramount since Icon struck its new deal with the studio earlier this year. Icon will release the movie itself in the U.K., where the company recently launched its own distribution company.
Also on Icon’s Cannes slate is “The Magic Pudding,” an Australian animated pic which is in production, based on the classic Oz kids book by Norman Lindsay.
The pic will feature the voices of John Cleese, Geoffrey Rush, Hugo Weaving, Sam Neill and Jack Thompson. It’s directed by Karl Zwicky and Robbert Smit, and produced by Energee Entertainment.
“Inside Out” is a South African romantic comedy that Icon is screening at Cannes. Directed by Neal Sundstrom, the pic lifts the lid off the eccentricity of small-town life on the veldt.
Finally, Icon is selling “When the Sky Falls,” with Joan Allen starring in the tragic true story of Irish investigative reporter Veronica Guerin.
