Japanese ‘Beast’ hits Beijing stage

Disney musical to be performed in Mandarin

TOKYO — The Japanese theatrical troupe Shiki (Four Seasons) will stage the U.S. musical “Beauty and the Beast” in Beijing for three months beginning Oct. 22.

Chinese musical actors and actresses will perform the Disney-originated show. Japanese musical director Keita Asari will helm the tuner in Mandarin during the scheduled 60 performances in the Chinese capital.

Project was planned as part of cultural events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.
