CANNES — Lea Thompson will star in “Some Guys Have All the Luck,” a $4 million pic that marks the feature helming debut of Jo Ann Dearing.

The pic is from 47 Prods. and exec produced by Canon Theatricals. The companies are in Cannes working on pre-sales.

Thompson, star of NBC’s “Caroline in the City,” plays an eccentric woman whose life is changed by a visit from her nephew (“Air Bud’s” Kevin Zegers).

Principals at 47 are Meta Puttkammer and Douglas Hunter. The company is in post-production on “Gentleman Bandits,” starring Peter Greene and Ed Lauter, and “Urban Folk Tales,” with Dan Futterman, Matt Keeslar and Alan Cumming.

Canon, headed by Susan Deitz and Joan Stein, specializes in L.A. and N.Y. theater, with Broadway credits including current Tony nominees “Side Man” and “The Lonesome West.” The group recently branched into features.

Dearing has been a standup comic and writer on such shows as “Roseanne” and “The Nanny.”
