Tapestry Films, best known for the teen comedy “She’s All That,” has teamed up with Intermedia Films to co-produce the college comedy “Van Wilder.”
Script is by Brent Goldberg and David Wagner (“Saving Ryan’s Privates”), based on an idea of Tapestry director of development Andrew Panay.
Tapestry principals Peter Abrams and Robert Levy will serve as producers, while Intermedia’s Guy East and Nigel Sinclair will exec produce.
“Van Wilder” is an irreverent comedy in the vein of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” Story centers on a young man determined not to graduate from college.
“This quirky and inventive project gives Intermedia an entree into this genre, in which Tapestry has been very successful,” Sinclair stated.
Hoping for a summer 2000 release, the producers are seeking a helmer.
In conjunction with Destination Films, Tapestry begins production this fall on “The Wedding Planner,” starring Jennifer Lopez and Brendan Fraser. Past Tapestry projects include Disney’s “Mafia!” and “Kid in King Arthur’s Court.”
Intermedia recently picked up international distribution rights to Destination’s comedy “Whipped.”
Intermedia’s past projects include “Hilary and Jackie,” “Sliding Doors,” “Playing By Heart” and “Where the Heart Is.”
Goldberg and Wagner were repped by Justin Silvera at Broder Kurland Uffner.
