Palm Pictures has acquired worldwide distribution rights to artist-filmmaker Mack 10’s “Thicker Than Water.”
Film tells story of rival leaders from two inner-city gangs who cooperate to promote their music.
In addition to Mack 10, the film features musical appearances by such rap and hip-hop stars as Fat Joe, Ice Cube, CJ Mack, McEiht and Big Pun.
Marvin Gleicher, prexy of Palm Pics theatrical distribution, expressed pride in his newest acquisition.
“Palm continues in its aim to be at the forefront of youth culture in independent film and music,” he said. “We are excited about partnering with Priority Records, a groundbreaking label that has certainly made its make in the hip-hop realm.”
Palm Pictures’ Evan Strauss brought “Thicker” into the company.
Palm is best known for releasing Jonathan Demme’s Talking Heads concert film “Stop Making Sense.”
Among the company’s current projects are James Toback’s “Black & White,” “The Cup” (which played at Cannes’ Directors Fortnight), Julian Simpson’s “The Criminal: The Last Minute” (a follow-up to “Blade”) and Master P’s “Lock Down.”
