NEW YORK — Miramax genre arm Dimension has signed Richard Loncraine (“Richard III”) to helm “Neverwhere,” Neil Gaiman’s adaptation of his own fantasy novel. Denise Di Novi is set to produce along with Lisa Henson and Kristine Belson of Henson Pictures.
Loncraine, who was brought onto the project through Di Novi, will helm the film after directing the Meg Ryan starrer “This Man This Woman” at Sony-based Screen Gems (Daily Variety, Aug. 17).
Originally set up at Sony, “Neverwhere” is a dark fantasy about a well-to-do businessman who gets trapped in a surreal London underworld after trying to help a naive waif avenge her family’s murder.
Dimension prexy Cary Granat and senior production veep Andrew Rona will oversee the project. Miramax VP of business and legal affairs Brian Burkin negotiated the deal on behalf of the genre arm.
Both Loncraine and Di Novi are repped by CAA.
