L.A. Film School taps Schatz

Professor is the first at new training program

Thomas Schatz has been tapped the first professor at the new Los Angeles Film School.

Schatz, current chair of the radio-TV-film department at the U of Texas at Austin, has taught for the past 23 years.

He has penned four books, including the film theory staple “Hollywood Genres: Formulas Filmmaking and the Studio System” (1981), and contributed to such publications as the New York Times, Premiere and the Nation.

Additionally, Schatz has served as a consultant to TV producers and writers in Italy, Switzerland and Finland.

The Los Angeles Film School is a one-year professional training program in motion pictures, TV and new media.
