Hopkins joins Foster fete

Channing, Demme, De Niro also to attend

Anthony Hopkins may want to share a fine Chianti with his “Silence of the Lambs” co-star Jodie Foster, as the Oscar winner joins the roster of celebs saluting the actress-filmmaker at the American Cinematheque’s 14th Moving Picture Ball, Saturday at the Beverly Hilton.

Aside from Hopkins, newly confirmed participants in the org’s major annual fund-raiser are Stockard Channing, Jonathan Demme, Robert De Niro, Laura Dern, Whoopi Goldberg, Lisa Kudrow, Rob Lowe, Peter MacNicol and Bill Pullman. A 90-minute special of the event will be broadcast on cable’s TNT Oct. 17.

The two-time Oscar winner is only the second woman to be feted at the Moving Picture Ball, following the 1987 honors for Bette Midler. This year’s event will be hosted by David Hyde Pierce, with Gillian Anderson, Mel Gibson, Sherry Lansing and Bill Mechanic serving as benefit co-chairs. Previously announced participants include James Garner and James Woods.
