Charlton Heston, Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh are among those who will headline the American Cinematheque’s first retrospective of Richard Fleischer-helmed films, including “The Boston Strangler,” “The Vikings” and “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.”
Fleischer will attend several of the screenings and discuss the films afterward, along with some of the stars.
Opening at the Egyptian Aug. 18, “Strangler” follows the story of the unstable blue-collar worker who terrorizes Boston in the 1960s. Fleischer and Curtis are scheduled to appear.
Also among the many films to be shown during the Aug. 18-29 cycle is a screening of the only surviving 35mm print of “Mandingo” Aug. 28.
The same day is Disney’s classic “20,000 Leagues.” Other notable screenings are “Fantastic Voyage,” “The Narrow Margin,” “Bodyguard” and “Compulsion” Retrospective ends with “Tora! Tora! Tora!” on Aug. 29.
