NEW YORK — Fran Drescher has joined the cast of “Picking Up the Pieces,” an indie ensemble pic being pieced together with sizable names.

Drescher, wrapping up a six-season run of her sitcom “The Nanny,” will join Woody Allen, Sharon Stone and David Schwimmer; Cheech Marin, Hector Elizondo, Lily Tomlin, Kiefer Sutherland and Elliott Gould are also in talks for the black comedy to be directed by Alfonso Arau. In the script by Bill Wilson, a butcher (Allen) botches a magic trick involving his promiscuous wife (Stone) and winds up hacking her to little bits and heading to Mexico with his cargo. The butcher drops her hand, which becomes a religious relic when a blind woman trips over it and has her sight restored. Paul Sandberg produces.

Drescher, whose “Nanny” finale airs May 12, last starred in “The Beautician and the Beast.” She’s repped by the Gersh Agency’s Bob Gersh and manager Elaine Rich.
