‘Climb’ tops Temecula

Hurt pic earns aud award, 'Scrapbook' nabs jury prize

At the 5th annual Temecula Valley international film festival, John Hurt’s “The Climb” won the audience choice award for best feature film, and Kurt Kuenne’s “Scrapbook” earned the jury award.

An estimated 10,000 moviegoers attended screenings at the 10-day event, held 75 miles south of Hollywood. Fest ended Thursday after unspooling over 100 films.

Academy Award-winning actress Shirley Jones received a lifetime achievement award from the festival, presented by her husband Marty Ingels.

Other awards include Denis Lewiston’s “Shergar” (U.K.), which won the jury and audience honors for foreign film; while “Vietnam: Long Time Coming,” directed by Jerry Blumenthal, Peter Gilbert and Gordon Quinn took the docu jury award and Clark Jarrett’s “The Return of Paul Jarrett” nabbed the docu audience award.
