Sandra Bullock will be in the talent competition with the comedy “Miss Congeniality” for Castle Rock Entertainment and Warner Bros.
Pic is about an FBI agent who, following in her heroic mother’s footsteps, goes undercover as Miss New Jersey in a national beauty pageant. However, things get serious when the agent has to thwart the efforts of a group that threatens to bomb the event.
Script for “Congeniality” is being written by Marc Lawrence, Katie Ford and Caryn Lucas. In addition to toplining, Bullock will produce through her Warner Bros.-based Fortis Films, with Lawrence taking exec producing duties. There is no director attached.
Warners and Universal Pictures normally co-finance each Castle Rock title, but “Congeniality” will go out worldwide through Warners. Castle Rock is aiming to get the pic into production by early next year.
Fortis co-produced “Hope Floats” for Fox and “Practical Magic” for Warner Bros. This year, the company mounted the independent production “Gun Shy” with Buena Vista Film Sales. Fortis is also developing the romantic comedy “The List” at Warners as a starring vehicle for Bullock.
Bullock, whose recent acting credits include “Forces of Nature,” “Speed” and “The Net,” next appears in “28 Days” for Sony, under Betty Thomas’ helm.
